We are proud to announce that we have officially hired Shelley Edmundson, our local conch/whelk biologist, as our Executive Director. Our organization can be a complicated one, requiring an understanding of how quotas, catch limits, permits, and regulations work and how they are purchased, leased, and managed, in addition to the standard cat-herding necessary at all small non-profits. And then there is the biology behind the fisheries that makes catching it sustainable. Shelley has served on the board of our organization for years, and we are certain she's up for the challenge!

As everyone knows, fishing is a dangerous business. Our organization is committed to making sure that fishermen not only have access to the resources they need to keep their businesses running, but that they also have the skills required to keep themselves safe while they do so. To that end, we worked with the Fishing Partnership Support Services to bring their Safety and Survival Training Workshop to the island for the first time. The safety workshop was attended by over 40 fishermen and community members--all of whom braved the frigid waters of April and all of whom now have at-sea survival skills and certifications.
